Tala Ridge Hunt Pre-order

The Tala Ridge Hunt Pre-order is Live!

After a slight snafu in which I had to prove to Amazon that I was the author, the Tala Ridge Hunt pre-order is finally (!) available on Amazon.

I appreciate that Amazon has my back and is actively trying to make sure no one else publishes my books to their site. This actually gives me some comfort, since I have neither the time nor the resources to scour the net to make sure my work isn't being pirated.

The pre-order delivers on March 19th. With over 18,000 words complete, I plan to finish early to give plenty of time for edits and possible rewrites.

Here's a sneak peek from chapter 1:

Chapter 1

Terrell groaned. Vampire dust tastes like crap, he told his wolf. Ainle yawned, unconcerned with Terrell’s distress. Even two nights after the battle at the Tirsdagr, his mouth tasted like acetone smelled.

Moonlight filtered through the gauzy curtains over the windows, highlighting the sticks in Terrell Pace’s hands. He sat on the edge of his queen-sized bed and stared through the darkness at the sharpened drumsticks he held. He swiped his right forefinger across the wood, wiped away the remaining traces of vampire dust, and heaved a sigh. Two nights previous, before the king appointed his daughter Ophelia as his heir at the Tirsdagr ceremony, vampires attacked. Again. And again, sharpened pencils saved the day.

The Horde, once slaves to the vampires, fought with clusters of pencils, while Terrell used weapons more formidable, the drumsticks Buck, the Outcast Pack alpha, gifted him before he left for the ceremony. Others broke the wooden folding chairs for makeshift stakes.

Terrell tapped his knees with the drumsticks. Maybe he should have Dusty purchase a boatload of drumsticks and sharpen them. Just in case the vampires ever attacked the Tala Ridge Ranch. He blew out a loud breath, the rank taste of vampire dust still in his mouth. Setting the drumsticks on his bedside table, he kicked off his shoes and stretched out on top of his comforter. Tomorrow, he’d have Dusty or Joshua mount them on the wall in his office. Closing his eyes, he tried to avoid thinking about the problems he came home to.

His phone vibrated in his pocket. Pulling it out, he glanced at the screen. Buck. For a moment, he considered letting it go to voice mail, then swiped the green phone icon. “Hey, Buck.”

“Hey. Took you longer to get back than you thought.”

“Yeah. We had to fly. The king was too busy to bring us home. Any problems while we were gone?”

“No. It’s been quiet. Sheriff Jameson wants to verify we’re having the barbeque for his deputies Saturday.”

“Might as well get it over with.” Terrell rolled to his side and stared at the drumsticks. “Thanks for the drumsticks. They came in handy.”

Buck snickered, his soft laugh coming over the speaker. “Don’t tell me you ran into more vampires.”

“Actually, I did. At least this time, I had a weapon that wouldn't break when I stabbed them.”

“Wait. Really? You fought vampires again?”

“They attacked during the ceremony. They almost killed the king, but he survived.” Terrell rolled to his back, pressed the speakerphone icon, and set the phone on his chest. He laced his fingers together, slid his hands behind his head, and stared through the dark at his ceiling. “I’m too tired to go into it right now, but I’ll fill you in after school tomorrow.”

Buck was silent for long moments, then sighed. “We didn’t have any excitement here. Oh, when you didn’t make it back Monday, I told Josh to get your assignments at school.”

“Yeah. He gave them to me.”

“Um, Terrell, Mom offered to help with the side dishes and the deserts for Saturday.”

“Sounds good. I’ll let Nettie know. She’s coordinating everything.” They chatted about the school assignments for a few minutes, then Buck hung up.

Terrell rolled to his feet and headed toward the bathroom for mouth wash. Maybe the next time he fought vampires, he’d remember to keep his mouth closed.

The next morning, Terrell used half a bottle of mouth wash. The taste of dead vampire wouldn’t go away and seemed to get worse overnight. His stomach roiled. Rinsing with clean water, he spat it into the sink, then washed the sink out. After dabbing his face with the blue hand towel hanging over the sink, he tossed the towel to the counter and walked into his room.

Dressed in his favorite black jeans and a grey t-shirt, he slipped his feet into his sneakers and tied them while thinking about the assignments he hadn’t bothered to complete, yet. He grabbed his backpack and hurried downstairs to the kitchen. Nettie stood at the stove, preparing breakfast. With a nod at her, he sat at the head of the table. She smiled and turned back to her cast iron griddle.

Tig, the golden Labrador Nate brought to live with Dusty stretched out across the backdoor. With a wide yawn, he scrambled to his feet and walked to Terrell, his toenails clicking on the hardwood flooring. He nosed Terrell’s leg and whined. Absently scratching behind Tig’s ear, Terrell pulled his books out of his backpack. With his algebra book open, he worked on graphing quadratic equations. He looked up when the chair next to him was pulled away from the table with a loud screech.

Mattie plopped in the chair and leaned toward him. “What’cha doin’?”

Terrell scooted his chair away from her and frowned at her. “My homework. You need something?”

“Yep. Laney called yesterday. She wanted to know if I could go to Marianne Gleason’s house with her next week for a painting lesson. Can I go? You said I could take lessons.”

Without waiting for his answer, the girl scrambled up on her knees in the chair and leaned over his book, staring at the equations he worked with. “That looks hard.”

Clearing his throat, Terrell cast a frantic glance around the kitchen. Nettie stood at the stove, pouring batter onto the griddle. “Um, Nettie?”

“Yes, Alpha?” She turned with a smile that morphed into concern. “Mattie, go get your shoes on.”

Mattie dropped to her bottom, raised one foot over the edge of the table, and wiggled it. “Already got’em, Mom.”

Nettie’s eyes narrowed. “Are you supposed to have your feet on the table?”

“My feet aren’t on the table,” Mattie protested.

“Go get your books together. I’ll talk with Terrell and your dad about your painting lessons.”

“But…”

“Now, Mattie.”

Terrell sat, shoulders and back stiff until Mattie left the room. Blowing out a breath, he bowed his head. “Thanks, Nettie.”

When her hand landed on his shoulder and gave him a squeeze, he looked up at her. The compassion in her gaze eased his tight muscles. “You could give her command to stay away from you, Terrell.”

“I know I could, but…” He swallowed hard and tried to blink away the painful emotions burning his eyes. “I can’t bear to be around her, but I can’t bear to be away from her, either.”

“Have you thought about talking to Nate?”

“I did, but how can I watch over her and make sure she’s okay if I don’t remember?”

Nettie gave him a tight hug, then tousled his hair when she pulled back. “You’re a good alpha, Terrell. You’ll make a good mate for her, too.”

"Yeah," he groused. "In ten years." He ignored her snicker.

The smell of burning pancakes filled the kitchen. She squealed and rushed back to the stove. Terrell ducked his head to hide his silent laughter.

Nettie was the only person in the pack who felt comfortable touching him so easily. The other women in the pack didn’t understand how she got away with treating the alpha like a child, but the other women never acted like they cared about him, either. Nettie was the closest thing he had to a mom. A smile on his lips, he focused on his homework, while Nettie threw the burned pancakes into Tig’s bowl, and poured more batter on the griddle.

The golden Labrador attacked the pancakes like someone would take them away if he didn’t scarf them down. Terrell glanced at the Labrador. With the taste he couldn’t get rid of still lingering, he wasn’t sure he would be able to eat. Sighing, he shook his head, reread the problem, and started writing the equation in his notebook.

The chapter above is a first-draft, so it is subject to change, but I hope you enjoyed it. The Tirsdagr ceremony mentioned in the chapter occurred in Wolf's Guard, book 11 in the Texas Ranch Wolf Pack series. Events in later chapters of Tala Ridge Hunt will reference happenings in Wolf's Duty, the final book in the 12 book series.

All the books in the series, and most of the companion novellas and short stories, are enrolled in Kindle Unlimited.

Author Copies Arrived!

My Paperback Author Copies are Here!

The last 9 copies of my Texas Ranch Wolf Pack series arrived yesterday. Over the three years, I've been working on this series, I have neglected to get author copies in paperback. Instead, opting most of the time to purchase the ebook versions.

I finally purchased the books I was missing to complete the set.

Photo of Author CopiesThe difference in the background colors on the covers of Wolf's Queen and Wolf's Enemy is much more noticeable. <<Sigh.>>

Maybe someday, I'll have time to redo those covers to match better.

I would love to see your photos if you have purchased one of my paperbacks.

If you send them to me at author@lynnnodima.com,
I'll create a post for them here for all to enjoy.

Remember, this is a family-values blog, so please make them clean. I reserve the right not to publish photos that would conflict with family values as determined by me.

I could add a page to hold them all if I get enough.

Do you purchase paperbacks? Ebooks? Borrow?

Take care!

Wolf's Quest Published in Large Print Paperback

Wolf's Quest in Large Print Paperback

Wolf's Quest has been published in a large print paperback format.

Again, the large print paperback editions of the Texas Ranch Wolf Pack Series are listed at the same price as the regular paperback editions.

Of the books published, this leaves only Wolf's Guard to be published in the large print format.

This will happen before the end of November.

At present, my plans are to have all twelve books of the series in the large print format before Christmas.

WIP Report

At this point, I have almost 55,000 words written in Wolf's Duty. It's not going as quickly as I wish it was, but it is getting there. I still have a few plot lines to pull together to get it finished.

Other News

In the process of writing Wolf's Duty, I've discovered two stories that should have already been resolved.

Rather than add to the 12 book series, I'm going to write two short-stories which happen in the same time-frame as Wolf's Duty. These should be published before Christmas.

The title of the first is Wolf's Delima and is Jonathan's story. Jonathan is Nate's beta. The second is untitled at present and will be Paige's and Lee's story, both of whom are human and ex-Huntsmen.

Wolf's Mission and Wolf's Huntsman Available in Large Print Paperback

Large Print Paperback Editions

Wolf's Mission and Wolf's Huntsman are now available as large print paperbacks!

I'm still working on getting all the book in my series into large print paperback format. As mentioned in a previous blog post, these paperbacks are the same price as the regular print paperbacks. I don't make quite as much on each one, but I would rather absorb the cost difference.

The plan is to have them all in large print editions by Christmas. Fingers crossed that health issues don't intrude.

Other News

My WIP, Wolf's Duty, is over 39,000 words, now. I'm not sure how long it will be since my characters still have to work through several problems. Hopefully, I'll be able to publish it in September.

Health issues have me going slower than I did last year. I've been diagnosed with cellulitis in my legs and diabetes, which makes it hard to sit at the keyboard too long. I'm on medication, so I think everything will resolve okay, but it is slowing me down.

That's all for today. Take care and let me hear from you.

Cover Reveal: Wolf's Duty

Wolf's Duty: Book 12 of the Texas Ranch Wolf Pack Cover Reveal

As of this morning, I have 33,771 words written in book 12 of the Texas Ranch Wolf Pack series.

Book 12 is the last book in this central series, but it is not the last book in Nate Rollins' world.

Some of my readers are saddened that the series is coming to an end. So, am I. This series has been and continues to be an exciting journey for me as a writer.

I am planning a series for:
  • Tala Ridge Pack in Colorado (alpha Terrell)
  • Teen Wolfs of Texas Ranch Wolf Pack
  • Ozark Pack in Arkansas (alpha Eli)
  • Royal Wolf Guard (to be commanded by Magnus)
  • Adair pack in Oklahoma
  • Westin's pack in Wyoming
  • Brighton's Oklahoma Base
  • Mason (future mate to Ophelia) and his new family

So many packs to write about!

If you have a preference which I write first, please let me know in the comments below! Each set will have at least three books, maybe more.

There will be no profanity or sex in any of these series. Some series will be advertised as young adult, though all my books are safe for young readers.

Wolf's Claim in Large Print

Cover of Large Print Edition of Wolf's Claim by Lynn Nodima

Large Print Wolf's Claim Available

Wolf's Claim is now available as a large print paperback. The text is set at 16 points to make it easier for readers who have difficulties with books printed at 11 points.

Every two to three weeks, I have scheduled one of my Texas Ranch Wolf Pack Series to publish as a large print book. This will ensure all twelve are available by Christmas (book 12 coming soon!).

As mentioned in a previous posting, the price for the large print books will be the same as the pricing for the regular print paperback books.

WIP Progress: Wolf's Duty

Wolf's Duty, the final book in the first set of 12 books, is still going strong. I have changed the focus of this book, somewhat, and plan to cut a scene that took the book into a difficult direction to work through. As soon as I determine what, if any, part of the scene can be salvaged, I will post the cut on my blog.

If you remember from Wolf's Huntsman, the birth of a Royal is difficult. When Ophelia was born, Nate, Koreth, and Nadrai played a significant role in helping Janelle through birth. Remembering this, I have made some changes in the plot since Janelle is soon to deliver a son. Nate, as a loving mate and father, would refuse to leave Janelle at this time.

Other News

My next series is tentatively titled Tala Ridge Werewolves. This will be a young adult series based on Terrell's Colorado pack. The kids are going to public school. There are about fourteen children (not really sure, yet), only four or five of which are teens.

I still need names for most of them. If you would like your name to be used for one of the children, please comment below. When the writing begins, I'll select which names to use and add a reply to your comment to let you know.

Thank you!

Wolf's Man: New Cover

Wolf's Man has a New Cover!

As an indie author, I am a lifetime learner. Recently, I learned that my first six covers are not totally to market.

What this means is that the people most likely to read my books will pass on them, because there isn't an expected component added to the cover.

My series, Texas Ranch Wolf Pack Series, is about wolf, panther, and bear shifters, among others, but the first six books in the series do not have wolves on the cover.

Over the next few weeks, I will be updating the covers of all six books.

The first, Wolf's Man, has been submitted and should be available on Amazon soon.

So, what do you think? Like this one better, or like the old one better?

New Wolf's Man Puzzle

For readers who also enjoy working online jigsaw puzzles, I've created a new puzzle for this new cover. The puzzle has 120 pieces.  Enjoy!

The old book cover will continue to be available as a puzzle, too.

Texas Ranch Wolf Pack: Serial or Series

Is The Texas Ranch Wolf Pack a Series or a Serial Story?

A series is a group of books that are related to each other by setting or characters. You can think of television for this idea. For instance, the old television show Andy Griffith is a set of stories based on the lives of different characters, or things that happened to them. You can watch one episode without knowing anything about Mayberry or the sheriff's family to understand what's going on.

A series is a group of books that follow a group of characters through sequential events. In a podcast I recently listened to, Anne-Marie Meyer identified The Lord of the Rings as a serial story. The story starts in The Fellowship of the Ring, continues in The Two Towers, and concludes in The Return of the Ring. The last two books could be read without reading The Fellowship of the Ring first, but they wouldn't make much sense. By the way, these books are free to read if you have a Kindle Unlimited membership. And you can read them on your computer, tablet, or even your telephone! All the Texas Ranch Wolf Pack books are enrolled in Kindle Unlimited, too!

After thinking about this for a very few minutes, the answer was obvious to me. The Texas Ranch Wolf Pack series is a serial story. What this means is that, though some of the books can be read stand-alone, the story makes more sense if you read in order from book one forward.

I didn't plan this. Actually, truth be told, I didn't plan the series at all. Book one tackled me and insisted it be written. The rest were written because the story wasn't complete. Wolf's Man is not the first book I've written, but it is the first published under my pen name, Lynn Nodima.

Reading Order for the Serial Series

For the best reading experience, the books should be read in this order:
  1. Wolf's Man
  2. Wolf's Claim
  3. Wolf's Mission
  4. Wolf's Huntsman
  5. Wolf's Trust
  6. Wolf's Reign
  7. Wolf's Queen
  8. Wolf's Enemy
  9. Wolf's Rage
  10. Wolf's Quest
  11. Wolf's Guard -- Coming Soon!
  12. Last in the series is TBD
Wolf's Destiny is a box set that includes the first six books in the set. At present, I plan to put out another box set containing the last six books in the set soon after book 12 is published.

Wolf's Man is the genesis story for the series. It tells how Nate meets Janelle and becomes embroiled in pack business. Each book that follows provides more information about Nate and Janelle while highlighting the lives of some of the pack.

Is it a Romance?

Yes and no. Is romance the major force in the stories? Not always. The struggle to build a kingdom for the were and keep them safe is the main story. But there is a strong romance in each book, and each book ends with a HEA (happy ever after) or HFN (happy for now).

The books are all written for story, much like the books of Andre Norton, Marrion Zimmer-BradleyAnne McCaffrey, or Elizabeth Moon (some of my favorite authors). When the story includes romance, there is romance in the book. In my books, there is no profanity or sex on the page, so they are safe reads for teens and pre-teens, too. My goal is to write books I can comfortably hand to my grandkids if they want to read them.

What do Readers Say?

These are just a few of the many reviews my books have received. Most of these came from Wolf's Destiny, but since the box set is made up of the first six books, the reviews apply to those, as well.

WIP: Wolf's Quest and Cover Reveal

Cover Reveal for Wolf's Quest by Lynn Nodima

Wolf's Quest Cover Reveal and Sneak Peek

I'm back at work, writing Wolf's Quest. At this point, I have well over 7,000 words written. In this story, Snarl is headed to Colorado to the Tala Ridge Ranch by jet to see if the woman Dylan Pace kept in a cage for the past years is Freyja, his mate. And Dusty and Nettie, with the kids, Terrell, Mattie, and Lettie, are also headed to the Tala Ridge Ranch, where Nate (the Were King) has decreed Terrell will be placed as alpha and Dusty and Nettie will be alpha regents until Terrell grows into the position.

So, who is the kid Snarl finds at the airport? Will they be welcomed to the Tala Ridge Ranch? Is the woman in the cage Freyja, Snarl's mate? More to come soon!

Backstory:

In Wolf's Huntsman, book 4, readers learned that Jackson Rollins, the former alpha to the Arkansas pack, and the Council Alpha, captured Freyja and hid her away to keep Snarl from giving the Lycos' staff to someone else. The Lycos staff, a weapon used to focus the Lycos' power, cannot be given unwilling, so the evil Jackson was unable to force Snarl to give it to him.

Snarl has been searching for Freyja for fifteen years. In Wolf's Enemy, Nate walks through Terrell Pace's mind and finds a woman in a cage in Pace's basement in Terrell's memory. Based on Snarl's story, Nate thinks Freyja may be in Colorado. The king gives Snarl leave to go find out if it's Freyja.

At the end of Dusty, Nettie, Terrell, and Nettie's twin daughters, Lettie and Mattie, head for Colorado by car to give the kids time to get to know each other.

On the way to find Freyja, Snarl meets Josh, a young wolf, at the airport.

Sneak Peek Snip from Chapter 2

After a quick stop at the luggage carousel to gather Josh’s two suitcases, Snarl let the boy drag them by the wheels and walked ahead of him toward the car rental kiosk. Even with his cane, Snarl got several feet ahead of Josh.
Josh shouted, “Grampa!”
At the alarm in the boy’s voice Snarl spun on his heel. Two men had Josh by the arms, pulling him toward the door. A single sniff identified them as wolves. Moving faster than he should while under the glamour, Snarl rushed to them and cracked his cane over the closest man’s back. “Let my grandson go!”
Staggering, the man released Josh and whirled to face Snarl. Lips pulled back in threat, he took a step toward Snarl. “Stay out of this, old man!”
“You will not take my grandson from me! Let him go!”
Snarl shouted loud enough to get the attention of security. Armed men started rushing toward them. “Hey, you!”
At the shout, the man facing Snarl sent him a threatening growl, then grabbed the other man. “Let’s go! We’ll get him later!”
The two men ran with security chasing them. Another guard stopped beside Snarl. “Are you two okay? What happened here?”
Eyes shock wide, Josh sent a beseeching stare to Snarl. Snarl patted Josh's shoulder, then pulled him closer and leaned on the boy’s shoulder. “We’re okay. Thank you. Don’t know why, but those two tried to kidnap my grandson.”
The guard glanced at Josh. “You okay, kid?”
Without speaking, Josh nodded. Snarl patted his back. “It’s okay, Josh. They won’t bother you, again. Okay?”
“Yes, Sir.”
The tremble in Josh’s voice hit Snarl hard. It was all he could do to stay with Josh rather than search and destroy the two wolves who tried to take him. “You’ll be safe as long as you’re with me, Josh. I promise.”
“Sir, I need you to come to security to answer a few questions.” The guard motioned toward a door marked ‘Security.’
Snarl sighed. “We’re running late, Officer. How long will this take?”
“Not long. We just need to fill out a report.”
Arm still around Josh’s shoulder, Snarl leaned on the boy. “We’ll have to go slow, Officer. I broke my cane on that guy’s back.”
“Take your time, Sir.” The officer led them through the Security door and into a small room. Josh helped Snarl to a chair then sat beside him. Snarl nodded his thanks and turned his attention to the officer. After checking that his age glamour still functioned, he squinted at the man’s shirt, then said, “Officer Norris, we don’t either one know those men. There’s not much we can do to help you.”
Office Norris pulled a form from the drawer behind the desk. “We just need to file a report, Sir. Name?”
Snarl sighed. “Kell Leifsson.”
“And the boy?”
“Josh Leifsson.” Snarl squeezed Josh’s knee beneath the table when the boy’s mouth opened. Josh shot a glance at Snarl’s face, then nodded.
“Your grandson, you said?”
“Yes. Can we speed this up a bit?”
“I need to see your ID, Sir.”
The muscle in Snarl’s jaw twitched. He reached to the back of his jeans and pulled his wallet from his pocket. Pulling a business card from the wallet, he dropped it on the table and added the photo of a pretty woman that came with the wallet. “My driver’s license and a photo of my grandson at his sixth-grade graduation.”
Josh blinked and turned his startled face toward Snarl. Snarl gave him a slight head shake. The officer picked up the business card and the paper photo. He studied them both carefully, wrote some information on the form, then handed them both back to Snarl. “Thank you, Sir. You didn’t know those two men? Either of you?”
Both Snarl and Josh shook their heads. “I already told you that, Officer. We really are going to be late. We’d like to go, now.”
Officer Norris nodded amiably. “We’re almost done here, Sir. I need a number in case we need to follow up.” Snarl rattled a number off the top of his head. If they did follow up, someone would be surprised when airport security called their phone. Norris wrote the number down, then pushed the form toward Snarl. “If you’ll just sign on the line at the bottom, you’ll be free to go. We don’t want you to be late.”
Snarl scribbled an unreadable signature, then nodded. “We’ll be on our way, then.”
“Of course, Sir. Have a great day!”
“Thank you.” Clutching the center of his broken cane, Snarl leaned on Josh. “Let’s go, Son. Your grandma will be anxious if we’re much later.” As he stood, he swiped the heel of his hand across the table to obliterate their prints.
Josh nodded and supported Snarl out the door. Once it closed behind them, he glanced back, then looked at Snarl. “How . . .?”
“Not now. Let’s get a car and get out of here before those guys come back.”

That's all for now. I'm back to the keyboard to finish writing chapter 6.

Later,
