Wolf's Queen

Jake agreed to narrate Wolf's Queen. At the time of this post, he has completed recording the audio files and is in the process of editing them. As soon as he sends them to me, I'll review and approve the book.
I'm hoping it will be available by the middle of October.

Tala Ridge Witch

The fourth book in the Tala Ridge Shifters series is currently undergoing editing. I expect it to be done well before time to upload it for the pre-order. I've uploaded the blurb, though it may not have propagated through the system and may not show yet. Here is is:

Witches take shifters as familiars?

In this gripping, action-filled young adult paranormal novel, Patricia, a young witch coming into her powers soon, stands to lose her powers and even her life, if Josh, the werewolf she met in school, doesn't help her.

But his alpha is against it. The shifter king is, too.

With the stakes so high, will Josh go against his alpha and the king to protect the girl he believes to be his future mate?

If you enjoyed Twilight or The Vampire Diaries, you'll love Witches Tala Ridge Witch. Buy now before the price changes.

A young adult paranormal shifter series, the Tala Ridge Shifter Series has no profanity or sex.

Series Break Time

I spent a month in California visiting my sister and her family. She and I drove all over Northern California. It was a great vacation and recharged my batteries.

Even so, I'm taking a break from the Tala Ridge Shifters and the Texas Ranch Wolf Pack series for a while to complete work on other projects. I'll get back with you about my plans, soon.

Other News

I have been visiting my sister in California for the past month. It's been great. She took me to San Fransico to see the Golden Gate Bridge, the Big Trees, and so many other places. It's been a joy to reconnect with her and spend time with her. In addition to all the sightseeing we've done, I've been working on the next book in the Tala Ridge Shifters series.

I am up to 16,000 words on Tala Ridge Witch. In this book:
  • Magnus and Bess have temporarily moved to Tala Ridge Ranch.
  • The Eagle Congregation claims King Nate and the shifters are bound by a treaty he knows nothing about.
  • Josh's mate-to-be is a witch.
  • A blood witch is performing evil magic in La Veta.
Tala Ridge Witch is a continuation of the story in Tala Ridge Hunt. I previously posted chapter one. I plan to put up a pre-order for the end of September as soon as I return home next weekend.

Here is chapter two:

Chapter 2

Current Time

Patricia Holmes slipped inside the back door of her coven’s two-story mansion. With unpacking still to do, most rooms had stacks of boxes in the corners. At one time, it was a beautiful home. These days, the faded wallpaper hung in strips. The dry wood flooring was splintered enough that she didn’t dare walk barefooted through the house, and the ceiling sported huge brown water spot stains.

The only thing going for it was that it was large enough to house the entire coven. With fourteen bedrooms in the main house, the thirteen witches in the coven each had their own room, while the fourteenth room was used as a meeting place. The attic was set aside as Patricia’s bedroom. She hadn’t come into her power and wasn’t yet a member of the coven.

Not that she minded. It kept her out of most of the coven’s schemes. After her father died and Neesha took over as high priestess, Patricia was careful to stay out of her way. She wasn’t sure why, but the woman’s aura scared her. Tiptoeing up the servant's stairs in the kitchen, Patricia winced when she stepped on a board that squeaked.

“That you, Patricia?”

Huffing out a silent breath, Patricia turned around and headed back into the kitchen. “Yeah, Mom, it’s me.”

Casidhe Holmes walked into the kitchen and stood beside the antique, oak butcherblock that desperately needed sanding and resurfacing with tung oil. She made a show of lifting Patricia’s late father’s pocket watch hanging from a heavy gold chain about her neck and looking at the face. “Do you know what time it is?”

“Yes, Mother. I’m late.”

“Why? What have you been up to?”

Patricia lifted her chin, meeting her mother’s angry gaze. “I was at school. They just let us go a bit ago.”

“What? Why would they keep you so late?”

“There was…” Patricia hesitated. Her mother's anger wasn’t something anyone wanted. “We had a lockdown. Armed men came to school. When the police had everything under control, they released us. I’ve been stuck in my classroom most of the day.”

Her mother’s eyes glazed, searching Patricia’s aura for truth. Patricia sighed, her shoulders rolling forward. “It’s true.”

“Why didn’t you call?”

“My phone was in my locker.”

Blinking, her mother’s eyes returned to their normal hazel appearance. “You could have contacted me with magic.”

“I was safe, Mom.”

“Were they looking for you?”

“Why would they look for me?”

Her mom gave her ‘the look’ and frowned. “People can be influenced by the others.”

Patricia repressed a sigh. “As far as I know, Mom, there are no dragons or vampires here. And even if there are, how would they know I was there?”

“There are other others, too, you know.”

Careful to keep her face blank, Patricia nodded. “I know.” She waved at the stairs behind her. “I have homework. May I go?”

Casidhe hesitated, then gave her a single nod. “Very well. You missed supper. Do you want a sandwich?”

“I’m not hungry right now. If it’s okay, I’ll come down and get one later.” When her mother didn’t object, Patricia hurried upstairs to her room. Shutting the attic door, she blew out an explosive breath. Until she figured out why the werewolves were here, she didn’t intend to tell the coven. They might decide to spell wolves. For some reason she hadn’t figured out, Patricia didn’t want them to mess with Josh.

                                                                                 *****

Casidhe closed her eyes and let her head droop as soon as Patricia was out of sight. Despair washed over her. If only demons hadn’t killed Herbert… A slight sound brought her head up and her eyes open. The coven high priestess, Neesha Driscoll, stood in the doorway, her head tilted to the left, watching. Swallowing hard, Casidhe bowed her head and waited.

“The schools were attacked?”

“That’s what Patricia said, High Priestess.”

Neesha tossed her hand in dismissal. “Unimportant. As long as she is not injured.”

“No, High Priestess.”

“It is time to begin her preparation.”

“But…”

“You know why we came to this place, Casidhe. The ley lines are so powerful here, the spell will last for centuries.”

“But she’s a child, Priestess!”

“Yes. And she will be a powerful witch. Her power will imbue the coven with vitality.”

Biting her lip, Casidhe raised her head to peer at Neesha’s glittering eyes. “But at such a cost! The loss of most of her powers! There must be another way…”

“There is not.” Eyes narrowing, Neesha crossed the kitchen toward Casidhe. “You knew this when we came here. Why do you hesitate now?”

Like she’d had a choice. Casidhe turned her head to the side, her chin almost touching her shoulder. She whispered. “She’s my only child, High Priestess.”

Neesha cupped Casidhe’s cheek in her parchment-dry hand. If Herbert still lived, Neesha wouldn’t dare touch her or her daughter. Casidhe held her breath to avoid the pungent odor that clung to the priestess’ hand. She blinked back tears when Neesha answered, “The coven will sing of your sacrifice beneath the moon for decades.”

That's all for now. Take care and stay safe,

Wolf's Man is an Audiobook!

Wolf's Man: First in the Texas Ranch Wolf Pack Series to Become an Audiobook

Wolf's Man Audio Book cover

As promised, I am publishing the Texas Ranch Wolf Pack series as audiobooks.

The first one, Wolf's Man, is now available on Amazon, Audible US, and Audible DE. It will soon be available on Audible UK, Audible FR, and iTunes. When it's available on iTunes, open your app and search for Lynn Nodima.

Brian A. Powell and his wife Warittha S. Powell are the narrators. They did a wonderful job with Wolf's Man and have agreed to narrate Wolf's Claim. Their narration just feels right. Brian captures Nate perfectly. He is the main narrator and voices all the male voices. Warittha voices all the female lines and makes a great Janelle. They make a great team.

Other News

August 20, the boxset collection of the first three books in the Tala Ridge Shifter series, titled Tala Ridge Shifters Collection 1, will be for sale. It's up for pre-order now and will deliver on August 20.

The first book in the Tala Ridge Shifters series, Tala Ridge Alpha, will publish as an audiobook soon. The narration is all recorded. We are waiting for ACX's approval of the files. It will be available soon. Cara Firestone, who narrated Tala Ridge Alpha, has agreed to narrate the rest of the Tala Ridge Shifters series and has already begun recording chapters of Tala Ridge Storm.

Cara recorded the first two books in my Billionaire Brothers series, Holiday Rescue and Not For Sale. She does excellent work. She has recorded dozens of books by other authors, everything from cookbooks to self-help to fiction.

Tala Ridge Witch Update: Cover Reveal

What's Going on with Tala Ridge Witch?

Here is the cover of the next book in the Tala Ridge Shifters series.

While working on what I thought was a chapter of Tala Ridge Witch, I realized it was a completely separate, but background, story about Magnus.

So, I am writing a short story about Magnus and Bess titled Dragon's Treasure. This story will explain why Magnus moves to the Tala Ridge Ranch for a while with his mate, Bess.

Here's a snip of Dragon's Treasure:

A frown marred Magnus' face. “Romeo and Juliet?”

“It’s about star-crossed lovers. The Montagues and the Capulets were enemies. Their kids met and fell in love. It’s so sad. They both die.”

Magnus’ mouth dropped open. He opened the book he held, found Romeo and Juliette in the table of contents, and thumbed through the book until he found the first page of the story. After reading two pages, he snickered. By page five, he was laughing out loud, his robust voice filling the library.

“Shhh, Magnus! You can’t be so loud in here.”

He laughed until he choked. With each breath, first smoke, then flames flashed from his mouth, setting the book in his hands and the library table beyond it on fire. Bess squealed and started beating the flames with her denim jacket, but dragon fire was too hot to beat out. Magnus was laughing so hard, he was no help. He couldn’t pull the flames back. Bess inhaled sulfurous smoke and started coughing. Somewhere, a smoke alarm started blaring.

Suddenly realizing he was endangering his mate, he coughed once, then sucked in all the flames, leaving the book a pile of ashes at his feet and the table badly burned. “Bess, are you alright?”

Waving a hand in front of her face to try to get a clean breath of air, she shook her head. “What are you doing?”

Magnus sucked in the smoke and held it until it soaked into his lungs. As a dragon, smoke and flames didn’t damage him, but his mate was a bear shifter. She could not only be hurt, but she could die if the smoke inhalation was severe. He caught her shoulders in his hands and held her away from him, inspecting her face. “Are you okay?”

“I’ll be okay. Give me a minute for my lungs to heal.”

Four men wearing helmets, turnout jackets, and pants rushed into the back of the library hauling a fire hose with them. Finding no fire, they stopped and stared at the burned table. As one, they turned and looked at Magnus.

He looked down at his scorched clothes and swallowed hard. “Uh oh.”

Audiobook: Wolf's Man

I have selected Brian A. Powell and Warittha S. Powell as narrators for Wolf's Man. Their audition was fantastic. I look forward to hearing their rendition of the rest of the book. My target date was a bit off for what will be required for the narrators to complete the work and for ACX to approve it and publish it. When I have a solid target date, I will let you know when the audiobook will be available.

After my hospital scare, I am feeling much better. The meds prescribed seem to be helping. I am home and working again. I hope you, too, are doing well.

Thank you to all who provided feedback on Tala Ridge Hunt. I made editing changes to correct the issues.

What did you think of Patricia and Jaxon? This is the first time I have included a non-Progenitor shifter or a witch in my books. Both these characters, and their families, will be in future Tala Ridge Shifters books.

Much like the Texas Ranch Wolf Pack series, I only intended to write three books for this series. Again, my characters are demanding that I continue writing. At this point, I don't know how many books will be in the series, but I know there will be at least two more. I don't have titles, yet, for the two books, but I'll let you know when I do.

Do you like TikTok? If so, you can follow me on TikTok. I'll be honest. I'm not very good at it, but I'm enjoying learning.

Tala Ridge Hunt Published!

Tala Ridge Hunt has Published!

The ebook version of Tala Ridge Hunt is now available on Amazon! The paperback will be out soon. I'll let you know when.

This story has introduced some new characters, including Jaxon, an eagle shifter who claims his people were in North America long before the wolves came to Earth, and a young witch, Patricia.

Both Jaxon and Patricia will show up in the next book, though at present I do not know when that will publish. Right now, I'm just starting the exploration/plotting phase.

I don't usually plot my stories, but I'm learning that when I have three or more books in a series, plotting becomes vital to make sure all the plot loops get closed.

On a personal note, I'm feeling much more like myself. Writing has become a joy again. I look forward to writing many more books and short stories.

Texas Ranch Wolf Pack: The Alpha King's Medallion

 Nate's Medallion

The Alpha's Medallion

Throughout the Texas Ranch Wolf Pack books, Nate wears his father's medallion which he was given in Wolf's Man.

The exact appearance of the medallion isn't described, except that it is bronze.

Since Snarl (Thorkell Leifsson), the ancient wolf shifter, is a Viking, the medallion is probably Norse. This medallion I found on Amazon looks about right.

The runes on this medallion are known as Vegvisir and were believed by the Vikings to protect and guide wayfarers.

This would make the Vegvisir work perfectly since Nate's father gave him the first one to protect him from the wolves hunting him. The other three he wears were spoils of the battle with his evil uncle in Wolf's Claim

In Wolf's Mission, Eli, Nate's foster- (later adopted-) brother also wears a medallion, though he can only wear one.

Is this similar to what you thought of when you read of Nate's medallion(s)? There are other possibilities below.

Other Possibilities

There are other designs that might work, too. Which is your favorite? The one above, or one of these?

Let me know which you think would work best.

Kalene Williams' Narration

Chapter One of Tala Ridge Alpha Narrated by Kalene Williams

Kalene Williams of Kalene's Story Time is a writer, an editor, and one of the admins of Keystroke Medium, a terrific Facebook group for writers. If you write or are interested in getting started in the indie author field, check out the Keystroke Medium YouTube channel for informative and helpful videos for writers.

Kalene reads the first chapter or so of books submitted to her. I'm not sure of her criteria for selection, but I've enjoyed listening to the first chapters of the books she features. I've read several of them and have never been disappointed.

I am thrilled beyond words that Kalene selected Tala Ridge Alpha to read in her Kalene's Story Time. Thank you, Kalene!

Wolf's Dragon is Available in E-book!

Wolf's Dragon, a companion standalone novella in the Texas Ranch Wolf Pack World, has published!

To celebrate the publication of this novella, I decided to publish at $0.99.

The price will go up to the normal price of $3.99 on July 1st (2020).

Wolf's Dragon is also available in paperback and large print paperback.

Writing this story was so much fun!

Blurb:

Can a wolf protect a dragon?

Dragon shifter Ulia smuggles her tiny pet unicorn to Texas when she flees Dragomir to escape an unwanted dragon shifter mate.
Cross-cultural differences keep wolf shifter Reese off balance when his true mate, a dragon shifter from another realm, arrives in Texas.
Then her spurned suitor follows her to Earth.
If her brother doesn't kill Reese for insulting his sister, the dragon she fled may.

In a world where dragons, unicorns, and werewolves are mythical creatures, what could go wrong?

A fast-paced and wild fun stand-alone story set in the same world as the Texas Ranch Wolf Pack Series!

If you enjoy reading about werewolves hiding in plain sight, dragons flaming enemies, and exotic unicorns, try this book.

Authors Love Reviews

Leave a Review

It's True! Authors Love Reviews!

Most authors love to get reviews. Especially good reviews.

But even bad reviews are helpful.

Besides the opportunity to learn from mistakes and errors, Amazon counts bad reviews as well as good reviews in the number of reviews for a book.

A higher number of reviews is factored into the book's Amazon rank, though no one outside Amazon's development team knows exactly how that works.

I've seen authors ask for good reviews only, but in my opinion, that is short-sighted.

What Authors Learn from Bad Reviews

Bad reviews occur for a number of reasons, including the reader simply didn't like the book, the book didn't meet expectations, the book was riddled with grammatical and spelling errors, or the author made a mistake.

There are as many reasons for bad reviews as there are reviewers.

Since I began my author's journey in 2017, there are a number of things I have learned from bad reviews:

  • I inadvertently changed a character's name (sometimes in the same paragraph. EEEKK!)
  • While moving chapters, instead of moving them, I duplicated them
  • I changed the spelling on a character's name
  • When I purposely changed a character's name, I did a global search and replace, without realizing the character's name was also the name of a month that was used in a scheduling scene. Thus my book had a month called Violet.

Some of these were quite funny. There are more. I am grateful to the reviewers who pointed out these issues, since it gave me the opportunity to correct them and upload the new files to Amazon.

At present, I have corrections to make that will be completed and uploaded over the next two weeks. Keep an eye on the Your Content and Devices section of your Amazon account to update the books you have.

What Authors Learn from Good Reviews

First and foremost, reviews help authors learn that their writing isn't crap. Even many-times published authors fall prey to doubt at times. Good reviews help bolster them through bad times, which include working with recalcitrant characters who insist on going a different direction than you thought they would, cruel comments from readers or fellow authors (not to be confused with constructive reviews or comments), and even the fear that the next book will never be as well-received as the last.

Reviews such as this one on Wolf's Duty start my day right and make me want to write more!

Amazon Review
To Read this on Amazon, click the image of the review, then click Top Reviews and select Most Recent.

I was always told to never make a decision on a blue day. I try to live by that. The times I didn't I most often regretted the decisions I made. On blue days, I reread my four- and five-star reviews. They help cheer me up when nothing seems to be going right.

Among the things I learn from good reviews are which characters readers most identify with and which storylines they want to continue. Magnus (Wolf's Quest, Wolf's Guard, Wolf's Duty, Wolf's Dragon) came about because someone wondered what would happen with Bess.  Stacy (Wolf's Heart, and hinted at in Wolf's Duty) became Jonathan's mate when a reader worried about the faithful beta in my series.

So, the most important things I get from reviews are ideas for new stories and books.

Take care,

I'm working on two books, right now. I started Tala Ridge Alpha, but an idea hit that I couldn't put aside. So, I'm also working on a book, as yet untitled, about Magnus' little sister coming to Earth. You never know what problems, or solutions, a teenage dragon might come up with. And her pet unicorn is bound to cause issues!

Wolf's Man: New Cover or Old Cover?

New on the Left: Old on the Right

Update:

After considering the results of my poll, I'm leaving this cover as is for now. If you commented here or on my FB page, thank you!

Does Wolf's Man need a new cover?

The one on the left is the new design. The one on the right is the old design.

Which do you prefer?

The cover to the first book in the series has bothered me for a while, so I created the new design.

Please comment below to let me know which you prefer.

Thank you!

P.S. It took a while, but Wolf's Duty was finally added to the Texas Ranch Wolf Pack Series page on Amazon!

Pre-Order for Wolf's Victory

The Second Boxset in the Texas Ranch Wolf Pack

Wolf's Victory, the second boxset of the Texas Ranch Wolf Pack Series containing the last six books in the twelve-book series, is up for pre-order!

The boxset will be available on February 15, but readers can pre-order it now! As with the rest of the series, Wolf's Victory is enrolled with Kindle Unlimited.

The paperback should publish about the same time. The format will be 7"X10" since there are too many pages to create it in a smaller book size. To make the collections look right on the bookshelf, I plan to redo the first boxset, Wolf's Destiny, to be the same size paperback.

Our Move

Our move to Oklahoma is complete. We still have some boxes to unpack, but we're getting there. Our arrival just beat ice and snow, which is quite a contrast from south Texas. Thankfully, we didn't have anywhere we had to go, so we could stay home and enjoy the cold weather from inside.

Wolf's Duty

It took a while to get it there, but Wolf's Duty is now listed on the series page on Amazon. Usually, this occurs automatically after a week or so. This time, I had to contact Amazon and ask them to add book 12 to the page. That doesn't happen often, but occasionally something gets glitched.

Coming Up!

I'm working on getting the paperback edition for Wolf's Victory done. At the same time, I'll be changing the current size of Wolf's Destiny to match. Both will be available in 7"X10" format. There won't be a large print edition of these two collections. In large print, both exceed the page number limits for POD (print on demand) publishing.
